What is Open Science?

„Open Science opens up the scientific process from the initial idea to the final publication in order to make it as comprehensible and useful as possible for everyone.“

The 6 Principles:

  • Open Methodology: document used methods and procedures
  • Open Source: use technology which is non-proprietary
  • Open Data: making created data available
  • Open Access: open publishing, usable and accessible for everyone
  • Open Peer Review: transparent quality assurance through an open peer review process
  • Open Educational Resources: free and open materials, esp. for university teaching.

Research data:

The University Library offers the possibility of securely archiving research data and making it available Open Access. We guarantee the long-term archiving of your data via the Open Science OVGU repository.

Research data can be

  • Measurement data
  • laboratory data
  • Survey data
  • Methodological test procedures, such as questionnaires, software or simulations

Open Educational Resources - open access learning and teaching materials:

Open Science OVGU also offers the opportunity to provide Open Educational Resources (OER) that have been created in the context of OVGU. OER may not only be viewed and copied, but also used for your own courses and materials. They are available under a license that is as free as possible to enable easy and safe reuse.
