How do I register as a library member?
By becoming a memberof the library, you agree to the user regulations of the university library of Magdeburg (German only).
External users
The registration for external users of the university library of Magdeburg requires a one-time fee of 10,30€. To register, please fill out the registration form, which can be printed out or obtained at the service desk. In addition, a valid ID card or, for international citizens, a valid passport and official proof of residency are required.
The minimum age for registration is 16. Users under the age of 18 also require a signed parental consent form.
Along with your library card, you will receive a URZ account upon registration. This grants you access to the computer workstations as well as the library’s electronic resources. Account activation is possible no earlier than one hour after registration. Please note: the account must be activated within two months. User accounts & loss of library card
By accessing your user account, you can manage your fees, loans, renewals and reservations. Additionally, you can use your login credentials to verify your identity when accessing electronic resources.
To log in, please use your user ID number, which can be found on the back of your library card (starting with 3100…). Your password is automatically generated from your date of birth (DDMMYY) upon registration and should be changed for security reasons.
If you lose your card, please contact the service desk on the ground floor imeediatly or email ausleihe@ovgu.de to protect your account from misuse.
Students and employees of the OVGU
Your employee or student ID card also functions as your library card. The registration at the university library is free of charge for you.
To activate the library account, students need to present their government-issued ID. International students need to present their passport and city registration and residence permit.
Alternatively, you may register online. To do so, please send a scan of both sides of your ID card and your student ID to ausleihe@ovgu.de.
The membership is valid for a year and can be extended by confirmation of continued affiliation with the OVGU (e.g.: certificate of enrolment or validated student ID). Students must also provide their current residential address and email address. For staff members, the OVGU office address will be used.
